Job Title: Production Manager

Location: Kendal, Cumbria

Salary: Dependent on experience

Job Type: Monday to Friday, averaging 40 hours per week, per annum, with some seasonal variation.

The company, a high quality food manufacturer based in Kendal, is currently seeking an experienced production/factory manager to oversee its manufacturing operation. The company has exciting expansion plans within the next 12/18 months, including a new purpose built 15,000 ft2 factory only 5 miles from both junction 35 & 36 of the M6. The launch of their new “Bake District” range along with the growth of their leading products, make this an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.

They are looking for someone with a strong background within Artisan food manufacturing who can make a positive impact on operations. Control the flow of work through the factory (bakery, packing and warehouse) to meet customer deadlines, motivate and direct the team, develop and maintain quality standards and monitor individual, team and machine performance.

This role would be suitable for a current production/factory or shift manager looking for the next step into management, with several years’ experience of managing others and who has been personally accountable for quality standards and production in a food manufacturing environment.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful person will be accountable for the day to day operation, with 3 current team leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

* Responsibility for the Operations team (35 people in seasonal peaks).
* Have a “hands-on” approach to all operations within the factory from goods in, through manufacture, to dispatch.
* Continue to drive a safe working environment by ensuring that all standards of Health & Safety and Food Safety are adhered to.
* Support the introduction of new products and changing specifications into the business, in line with the customer requirements.
* Ensure all quality standards are embedded throughout the production process, monitored and achieved.
* To ensure the achievement of the daily production plan and communicate any shortfalls to the business.
* Maintain work flow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment.
* Plan, coordinate and control all activities within the factory. Reallocate tasks and reschedule whenever needed to achieve deadlines.
* Complete production run/paper work checks to ensure all systems are fully maintained.
* To reduce waste levels and implement continuous improvements.
* To take the lead role in factory planning to ensure that the most efficient routes are taken and that all equipment and materials are in place in time for production.
* To ensure all production equipment is maintained and serviced appropriately; keeping daily safety check documentation where necessary.

Key Requirements:

Essential:

* The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate teamwork, drive for results and leadership.
* A proactive outlook and ability to use their own initiative.
* Have a good understanding of factory process including HACCP, BRC, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Systems.
* Good I.T skills, specifically Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write memos, draft notices and communicate via email.
* Proven people-management skills.
* Have skills and leadership qualities to act as a mentor in developing potential within the team.

Desirable:

* IOSH Managing Health & Safety.
* Level 3 HACCP.
* Experience in managing change.
* Experience in a food manufacturing site in a similar role.
* Exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles.
* Exposure to continuous improvement systems.
