Role: Chartered Structural Engineer
Location: Hemel Hempstead
Type: Permanent
Salary: £45,000 - £65,000

I am looking to place a Chartered Structural Engineer within a property developer’s Hemel Hempstead office. The firm primarily operates within the private residential development and commercial markets, covering high-rise developments and large-scale property development. The firm has won numerous 5-star awards for its work at the International Property Awards for developments in the UK and Channel Islands.

The firm require a team leader to work out of their Hemel Hempstead office who can operate end-to-end, covering feasibility designs through to site-based activities and eventual handover. Previous experience in residential/commercial developments is desirable, although those with a consultancy background are also highly sought after.

Candidates will have the opportunity to oversee projects from pre-feasibility through to handover, ensuring a team of other dedicated structural designers are designing to relevant codes, making sure that projects are completed on time as well as ensuring the buildability of designs. Candidates will be expected to get involved with the design process, ensuring relevant stakeholders are kept up to date with any design changes, constructability issues and relaying design update requirements to design teams/technicians and construction teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who already has experience in this area, or from someone in a consultancy background looking to change markets and use their design/management skills in a new market. The firm operates using a range of software, with strong technical design skills, team leadership capabilities and client liaison skills more important than any specific software knowledge.

Due to the sign-off duties associated with this role, all candidates will need to hold Chartered Engineer status, with membership of either the IStructE (Institute of Structural Engineers) or the ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers).

In return for the right design, management and liaison skills, the firm can offer a very competitive salary and a range of benefits to suit your lifestyle.

Job Requirements:
  • Chartered Engineer status (IStructE/ICE)
  • Relevant Education
  • Previous experience in residential/commercial markets
  • Previous design consultancy experience
  • Competent Design skills + Design-checking skills
  • Client liaison skills
  • Site-based engineering skills
