Would you like to be involved in the development and delivery of complex munition products? We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Systems Engineer at our site in Glascoed.

As a Trainee Systems Engineer, you will be you will be working collaboratively as part of a team who work with the development, manufacture, testing and in-service support of munitions. More specifically, you will be responsible for development of the safety critical fuze system within the munition. 

This role will provide you with the unique opportunity to develop your career within an exciting area of engineering, working across the whole systems lifecycle in the development of state-of-the-art defence technology. You will also gain exposure to a range of stakeholders and engineering disciplines.



Your main responsibilities as a Trainee Systems Engineer will involve: 


Working closely within an integrated engineering team, planning and subsequently delivering engineering tasks

Gaining knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of new technologies in order to add value to the business

Gaining knowledge and experience in the preparation of test specifications for product acceptance, as well as designing and aiding in sponsoring and managing tests

Compiling technical data to support design approval

Monitoring and advising external suppliers on technical activities

Technical reporting

Gaining knowledge and experience in supporting production staff to deal with product technical queries, testing and giving advice on quality

Liaising with engineers in other teams and other stakeholders to ensure integration of fuzing sub-systems at product and platform level

Supporting technical authorities to respond to external customer technical queries

Your skills and qualifications as a Trainee Systems Engineer:


Degree or equivalent qualification or experience within one of the following disciplines: systems engineering, electronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or physics

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office package



Systems engineering/electronic bias

Knowledge of modelling tools such as Abacus/ Matlab

CAD experience

You will have the ability to develop and create reports and specifications, as required, alongside a strong analytical capability. You must also have the ability to work in an organised and efficient manner to project timescales, as well as the ability to take ownership of your work. Good verbal and written communication skills will also be key to succeeding in this role.

Salary: £27,231+ commensurate with skills and experience
