Numerical Optimisation Analyst - Utilities

Southampton - Flexible work patterns

Salary is negotiable to £60,000

Many water utilities face the challenges of an aging infrastructure, population growth and climate change. You will join a company that creates innovative solutions for the operation of water supply networks, to help these utilities improve their networks and more effectively manage them.

You will be excited by environments in which there is a large amount of rapidly moving data and you will be keen to design and build the data infrastructure that the company and clients will need in the future. You will provide insightful analysis. You will have held positions as “Data Scientist” and “Data Engineer”.

Your new role:

The work will include building models that describe various aspects of water supply operation and behaviour, and developing, implementing and analysing solution methods that are both computationally efficient and converge reliably. These outcomes will feed directly into our analytical product offering.

You are likely to have a formal mathematics, statistics, or physics background. But it is important that you are able to focus more on producing great data-driven products to answer operational questions for the company and clients.

Your Background:

* Masters/PhD in Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Physics, or similar.

* Applied experience in solving and analysing systems of equations and numerical optimisation.

* Programming ability in Python, R, or similar.

* It is likely that you will enjoy and want to develop your skills in the following areas - Optimal Control, Convex Programming, Nonlinear Programming, Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming, Development of numerical optimisation tools, Numerical Analysis, Sparse Large Scale Scale Systems, State Estimation, Linear algebra

Desirable skills:

* Experience in researching existing numerical methods and/or making contributions in this

* field.

* Experience in graph theory and other forms of network analysis.

* Linux/Unix experience.
