System Technician - South
Field Based (covering the South of England)
£25,662 - £30,190 DOE Plus Benefits
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We are now looking for a Systems Technician to cover a territory of the South of England.
Whatever the weather, equipment and crew need to operate to the very highest possible technical standards. It’ll be up to you to ensure this.
As part of a team, working closely with Station Mechanics carrying out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repair on all the electrical, mechanical and electronic equipment within the Coastal Maintenance South Division, it’s a chance to really make a lifesaving impact on the vital maintenance of lifeboats, plant and equipment.
You will be involved in the trial and assessment of new equipment, and there will be the opportunity to undertake training courses. You will need to be a proactive individual who can respond quickly to changing priorities and tight deadlines.
You will be required to travel throughout the Coastal Maintenance South Division, from Portishead working around the coast to Mudeford and live within this area. Travel and work in other parts of the UK and ROI is occasionally required.
To be considered, you’ll need:
- A time-served engineering apprenticeship or experience in mechanical, electrical and/or electronic engineering
- An NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a mechanical, electrical or electronic discipline
- A full driving licence
- The willingness to work out of standard hours, take part in a duty breakdown rota and spend nights away from home
Although not essential, a towing licence is preferred.
As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.
Please note, the closing date for applications is the 22nd April 2018.
Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards our goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using our expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
