We are the RNLI: the charity that saves lives at sea. Every day of every year, people of all backgrounds get into difficulty on and around the water. It’s a problem that we’re here to tackle and we are determined to reduce drowning.
Our 24-hour search and rescue service operates from 238 lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland. Our lifeguards patrol over 240 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands, and our flood rescue teams can reach anywhere in the UK and Ireland within 6 hours.
This is an exciting time for Engineering and Asset Management as we shape the department to take on the challenges of the future. We are looking for an inspirational and collaborative leader who has a proven track record in leadership, change management and partnership working.
As Principal Engineer, your leadership will support and guide an engineering team, whilst still delivering the highest levels of equipment and technical capability to the coast.
You will be operating across the organisation, including lifeboat stations as well as with external contractors and suppliers.
To be considered, you’ll need:
- Experience of working in an engineering environment
- Marine design experience
- Management experience
- To be an Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
Ideally, you’ll be a Chartered Engineer, but this isn’t essential. Previous project management experience would also be beneficial.
As the Principal Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of world leading engineering design and support, providing safe and effective boats and equipment for the RNLI.
This is your chance to be part of something important, something that changes and saves lives every day.
The closing date for applications is the 29th April 2018, with interviews scheduled to be held on the 7th May 2018.
As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.
Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards our goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using our expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
