Salary: £32,993 to £50,272 pa (inclusive of MPP) dependent on experience plus industry leading benefits including an outstanding pension scheme

Talented Civil / Structural Engineering Analysts needed to drive the design of new facilities for Nuclear Fusion.
We have a particular need for engineers with experience in civil and structural engineering design and analysis using ANSYS Workbench and APDL and other design tools. Experience in design of steel concrete and timber structures to Eurocodes is essential. Membership of the ICE or IStructE is desirable and candidates should be chartered or working towards chartered membership. You will be an integral part of a dynamic team of engineers and analysts. You will be intimately involved with mechanical analysis and design and you will work in a project team environment.
The main responsibilities of the role will include:
-Design and analysis of buildings and infrastructure for experimental and nuclear facilities.
-Functional verification of designs according to Eurocodes
-Lead teams of engineers in system wide simulation work packages
-Developing and testing custom calculation tools and macros
-Operation of experiment and test facilities
-Defining test methods and safe systems of work
-Writing technical reports & checking the reports of colleagues
-Training & supervision of junior colleagues
-Management of medium work packages and contributing teams c. 10 people
The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Posts are available at UKAEA levels 4 (Experienced) and 5 (Senior), depending on breadth and depth of experience. The higher level 5 position includes overall responsibility for the qualification of on-site facilities and requires higher levels of qualification or equivalent experience, such as a PhD in an appropriate discipline and / or Chartered membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).

Knowledge skills and experience
-A relevant engineering degree or equivalent
-Experience of structural design with demonstrable expertise in application of Eurocodes
-Good interpersonal skills
-Good technical writing skills
-Ability to lead & coordinate effort from a small team
-As part of your role you may be asked to visit or work in radiation controlled areas or in beryllium controlled areas. Full training and medical assessments will be provided if this is necessary.
