Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UCL has an outstanding international reputation in research on energy and the environment, marine engineering and naval architecture and engineering for medical applications, with strong research collaborations with industry and universities in the UK, North America, Asia and the Far East and has excellent research and teaching facilities.
The main duties of the post holder will be to support the needs of the department with student projects and research by manufacturing items, such as experimental rigs and individual projects and help with their installation. The post holder would also be able to maintain our laboratories with items such as combustion engines, wave simulation tanks and bespoke equipment by repairing faulty equipment and manufacturing components.
The Department has extensive experimental laboratories and a substantial workshop used for both teaching and research ranging from engines to biomechanical engineering. The person will be required to advise technically on how to manufacture items from discussions with academics and students and be competent at precision machining, installing and maintaining bespoke components and rigs. Other skills accompanying the use of machining skills will be looked upon as favourable such as electronics, model making, engine rig assembly and pipe work installation.
