Mechanical Engineering Research Technician in Physics Grade 6

You will join a small specialist skilled team within the Department of Physics, interacting with research and technical staff at all levels and practising a high standard of mechanical workshop skills. It is essential that you have excellent engineering ability and recent hands-on experience of precision machining and manufacturing to high standards Applying your extensive knowledge of engineering equipment and technique, you will be engaged in the development and manufacture of new scientific devices used in large collaborative experiments. You will preferably be educated to BTEC Higher Level in Engineering (or equivalent in mechanical engineering with significant and relevant practical ability and experience). Your knowledge and experience in toolmaking or precision engineering will enable you to design and build jigs and fixtures and work on your own initiative to tight deadlines. With your flexible approach you will apply these attributes to high level problem solving in associated research laboratories and when representing the University, carrying out installation work at CERN and similar international laboratories. The post is available as soon as possible until 31 May 2021.
