Role: Principal/Associate Civil/Drainage Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Type: Permanent

I am looking to place a Principal Civil Engineer in an international engineering consultancy’s Birmingham city-centre office. The firm operates from 20 offices across the globe, with operations across the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and North Africa. The firm operates across all engineering disciplines covering buildings, bridges, highways, drainage, energy, and more.

This post primarily covers Civil Infrastructure projects and buildings drainage for large commercial, industrial and urban regeneration/residential projects as well as major local authority schemes, covering technical leadership of MicroDrainage/Civil 3D/PDS outputs and management of a team of 10 engineers.

Over and above a conventional Principal level role, this position offers opportunity for rapid advancement for the right person. The firm has an Associate Director who is retiring relatively soon. In the short-term, he is looking for someone to bridge the gap between senior management and junior engineers, as well as support leadership of the design team. In the longer term, whoever takes up this post will be trained to assume the responsibilities of the Associate Director and eventually assume control for the Infrastructure work stream across the Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is people-focused but can also maintain a technical mindset.

Due to the nature of the design sign off responsibilities and team leadership duties, any candidates should be a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng). You will be mentoring and developing more junior engineers on their journey to Chartered status. You will be able to lead from the front technically and develop/build long-lasting relationships with other industry professionals. The firm is a registered Investor in People and are committed to promoting your personal development and continuing professional development.

Job Requirements:
  • Relevant technical management experience of Civil Infrastructure/Buildings Drainage projects
  • Chartered Civil Engineer (C.Eng)
  • Experience managing other users of AutoCAD/Civil 3D/MicroDrainage/PDS
  • Desire to lead and develop team of Civil Infrastructure engineers
  • Relevant education within Civil Engineering
  • Ability to maintain and develop new and existing client relationships
