Are you an experienced Materials Laboratory Technical Lead and Manager with excellent communication and influencing skills?
Do you have a background in fusion/nuclear with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification?
Do you have substantial knowledge and industry experience working on with either: Digital Image correlation systems, multi-axial mechanical testing, small specimen test samples, fracture mechanics and or development of design rules/codes?
This role sits within the Materials Technology Group at UKAEA where we focus on solving materials technological challenges for fusion, looking at practical research, strategy development and emerging multi-disciplinary technology issues for fusion devices.
As our Materials Testing Laboratory Manger, you will be a leading person in the development of our growing materials testing laboratory.
Your responsibilities can include:
-Lead management and development of new materials testing laboratory.
-Lead one or more materials technological research projects
-Lead procurement and development of new state of the art materials testing and analysis facilities.
-With our support, develop your skills to become the UKAEA technical authority on one or more materials disciplines.
The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience
-A PhD (or equivalent) OR equivalent experience in materials science or relevant areas.
-Experience managing/leading research laboratories or research equipment (preferably with mechanical testing equipment)
-Experience of preparing research proposals and/or project planning.
-Experience of disseminating scientific work via publications and presentations.
-Knowledge/experience working with either: digital image correlation systems, multi-axial mechanical testing, small specimen test samples, fracture mechanics and or development of design rules/codes.
-Experience leading procurement of state of the art and/or bespoke scientific equipment.
-Experience managing staff/postdocs and students in research organisation.
-An understanding of the effects of radiation damage in engineering materials.
-Knowledge of fusion community, operation conditions and fusion components
