Our client has been established for more than half a century and specialise in the sourcing and distribution of highest quality fresh FMCG produce to customers throughout the UK and Europe, employing more than 250 people and having numerous sites across the country. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and proactive Customer Technical Manager to complement their established and successful team.

Based out of a prestigious Head Office environment near Birmingham (Monday to Friday – 8am to 5pm) and reporting to the Customer Technical Manager, the successful candidate will essentially demonstrate previous Fresh Produce experience and will operate as the Lead for all aspects of the Technical customer relationship, both on the implementation and management of the customer strategic side as well as ensuring alignment with commercial colleagues to deliver a common approach across the business. Acting as the First contact and lead for Day to day interaction with Customers, the successful candidate will represent the organisation across all areas of the business supported by Technologists and other members of the team as required.

Core responsibilities for this diverse and challenging Customer Technical Manager role will include (but not be limited to):

* Preparing with commercial input, weekly bulletins to each customer technical contact
* Proven Fresh Produce experience
* Meeting the technical marketing plan for your category
* Planning and controlling customer visits and subsequently planning the agenda and orchestrating customer visits to client sources
* Formally following up on any and all Customer complaints, depot rejections and warnings
* Producing monthly Quality of Service analysis based on Customer complaints claims and depot rejections and follow up commercial decision-making.
* Co-ordinating with the technical systems manager and maintaining customer specifications within the technical department ensuring that relevant personnel are aware of changes to systems.
* Conducting QAS and bench marking exercises as required by all customers.
* Producing and following up NPD plans for all existing/new products.

Other more generic responsibilities will include helping to develop the supply chain so that it is conducive to a lean manufacturing operation, ensuring compliance with food safety law and customer GMP and that suppliers operate within company and ETI guidelines, representing the business at appropriate forums and meetings and operating safe systems of works (including carrying out HACCP and COSHH as required).

To be considered for this diverse and extremely challenging role, you will be IT literate and flexible to travel occasionally overseas as required and Lead Auditor, HACCP and Food Hygiene qualified (or equivalent). You will demonstrate a real knowledge of the FMCG sector - specifically growers and produce varieties (with a working knowledge of current growing practices and technological developments proving advantageous) – and an excellent understanding of UK technical requirements and legislation.

Broader skills will include the ability to plan, prioritise and problem solve effectively whilst working within a pressurised environment, work as part of and influence a team, and demonstrate an appreciation of BRC accreditation and other accreditation programmes including Tesco PHS, PIU, Morrisons and ISO.
