CAPSE is Wales’ only independent research, development, test and certification house undertaking cutting-edge research and knowledge transfer activities within the advanced automotive and power systems engineering sectors. CAPSE is experiencing a period of significant growth as it expands its testing and validation services to a wider group of commercial clients. As a result, CAPSE wishes to appoint a Deputy Director. The role will be a demanding senior management role, with successful applicant having in-depth knowledge of the low-carbon automotive and renewable energy sectors in Wales, the UK, and internationally. The successful applicant should also have a track record of delivering multi-disciplinary engineering projects with significant financial and strategic value. He or she should also have significant management experience, with an ability to guide a multi-skilled team of engineers, researchers, technicians and support staff, and be willing to support wider academic duties such as PhD student supervision.
The successful applicant will focus on the technical leadership of CAPSE’s commercial activities, ensuring that the pipeline of projects are suitably resourced and equipped. He/she will also be responsible for supporting the Directors business leads through to deployment as well as developing their own portfolio of leads where possible. He/she will ensure the facility operates to the highest possible standards at a strategic level, and with the Director will draw up the Strategic Plan for approval by the Board. Important aspects of the role will include: horizon scanning for commercial opportunities, representing CAPSE at trade events, and liaison with the Welsh Government and stakeholders. The Deputy Director will line-manage the Principal Engineer and the Operations Manager, and will be expected to liaise closely with other Departments of USW on the development of CAPSE.
This position is based at the Pontypridd (Treforest) Campus of the University of South Wales.
