Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer
We’re looking for a Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Officer to join our Thames tidal walls asset performance team. The team manage over 3,000 flood defences that, together with the Thames Barrier, protect London from tidal flooding. This role is a great opportunity to join the team and the work that you’ll be doing will directly help to protect homes, communities and wildlife.
As an FCRM Officer everything you do will be to reduce the risk of flooding in London. You’ll work closely with internal and external teams, as you support the delivery of our asset management strategy and plans. This includes working on flood defence improvement projects and ensuring our maintenance work is carried out when and where it’s needed. You’ll provide advice on planning and permit applications for development next to the river Thames, too. Supporting your team with flood defence condition assessment, reporting, enforcement and engagement, you’ll also look at how we can better use the data and information we hold.
You’re passionate about the environment and keen to achieve sustainable outcomes in flood risk management. Capable and confident, you are able to use your initiative when it comes to making decisions. You will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, along with a talent for building excellent working relationships with internal teams and external partners. You’ll have a relevant degree, or equivalent experience, perhaps in civil engineering or similar, while good data management skills, including Microsoft Office, is essential. Knowledge of GIS software would be beneficial.
You’ll be required to have counter terrorism security clearance (CTC) to work from the Thames Barrier, so it’s vital that you have the right to work in the UK full time.
