We are looking to recruit a number of Mechanical Engineers in 2018 due to exciting new projects and growth. We would like to hear from experienced Mechanical Engineers, Senior Mechanical Engineers and Principal Mechanical Engineers to grow and enhance our team.
Bespak’s in-house Innovation team consists of around 40 colleagues working in partnership with our customers to bring new ideas to the market and create a new generation of drug delivery devices. At the Innovation Centre we get to see our designs go from early concept stage right through to manufacture for patient use.
About the role
At all levels of the Mechanical Engineer role you will carry out a range of engineering activities for innovation projects to identify, design and develop new drug delivery products.
The key aspect of this role will be to develop new component and product designs, initially by understanding the device requirements and subsequently by ensuring that the designs are optimised to meet them. Much of this work will be supported by developing a theoretical understanding of how the product works, for example via mathematical models or tolerance analysis, as well as conducting diligent laboratory testing.
You will also be involved in carrying out Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) assessments to ensure that the parts can be reliably and repeatedly manufactured and assembled. Additional activities will range from creating technical reports and design documentation to procuring prototype parts and liaising with appropriate suppliers to procure tools and commission parts.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer your role will grow to include leading, planning and executing project work-streams and other projects. You will also direct, review and mentor work completed by junior colleagues, supporting their personal development whilst ensuring that all tasks are completed in line with project plans. You will liaise with customers regarding product development and will draft client technical reports and design documentation. You will work across Bespak, liaising with engineers and other business functions to discuss and evaluate the feasibility of production, production processes and costs. At Principal level you may also take on team management responsibility.
As a Mechanical Engineer you know how things work, particularly small, moving plastic parts and you can explain how they work to technical and non-technical people. You are interested in how things work and how different parts of a product interact and work together.
The key skills, experience and qualifications we are looking for are:
• An engineering degree at minimum 2:1 (or equivalent)
• Demonstrable experience of using 3D parametric systems such as SolidWorks
• Experience of analytical engineering analysis
• Experimental diligence and the ability to collect, analyse and interpret data
• Experience of writing reports
For more experienced Mechanical Engineers we are also looking for
• Working knowledge of FMEA and DFMA
• Knowledge of the ISO 13485 Quality system
• Experience of developing plastic components for high volume manufacture using injection moulded components
• Project management experience
• Medical Device experience is advantageous
