Are you an experienced Electrical/Electronics Technician with design, test, and fault finding skills? 

Do you have a background in RF-industry/Nuclear-Industry/Military/Science with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification?

Do you have substantial knowledge and industry experience working on RF plants or large electrical installations?

The UK Atomic Energy Authority has an excellent opportunity for an Electrical/Electronics Technicians to join their team within the Heating and Fuelling department. The team consists of circa 90 employees and are responsible for Plasma Heating systems on the JET and MAST-U tokamaks

The jobholder will be part of the ICRH group which carries out the operation, upgrading and maintenance of the RF (radio Frequency) plant and its power supply systems in support of the JET facility. The system delivers 10 MW of RF power (25-55 MHz) to the JET plasma. It is essential that the jobholder adopts outstanding safe working practices. 

After training, the job holder will also provide support for JET operation in the ICRH Co-Pilot role, including the safe start-up, configuration and shutdown of the ICRH plant and assisting the ICRH shift leader (Pilot) during operational shifts. 

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience

Essential

- HNC or equivalent.

- 2 years` experience as an Electrical/electronic technician or working in similar role.

- Installation, commissioning, maintenance of electrical equipment including HV power supplies.

Desirable

- HND.

- Experience of working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

- Experience of using Electronic Circuit Design and Simulation software such as OrCAD or Proteus.

- Ability to prototype circuits from design drawings

- A member of the IET working towards ENGTECH or higher.

Special requirements:

- Note that during experimental campaigns, JET operations runs a two shifts system from 06:30 until 22:30; the jobholder is expected to be available for 8.25 hours shift work during this period. Occasional Saturday shift work could be requested (but not mandatory).

- The jobholder is expected to follow strict Health &Safety regulations related to ionising and non-ionising radiation, high voltage, pressurised air, chemical and mechanical hazards associated with the job.

- Participation in the CCFE and Euro Fusion scientific & technological programmes is encouraged based on good synergy with the ICRH Group goals and activities.
