Vertical Aerospace is an exciting new company that’s looking to change how the public views and uses the aviation industry. Our mission is to make air travel personal, on-demand and carbon-free.  

We’re now looking for a Battery Systems Engineer to develop and integrate bespoke battery systems to power our aircraft.

The Role

As a Battery Systems Engineer, you will develop battery systems for our aircraft. 

Working in a fast-paced design and build environment, you will liaise with suppliers and engineers to deliver an optimised, integrated system. 

Specifically, you will: 

- Design the battery system architecture 
- Integrate battery systems within vehicle and powertrain projects 
- Define test requirements for flight ready and experimental systems
- Help to manufacture and test prototypes 
- Support certification activities 
- Assist with battery electrical and mechanical design, modelling and simulation activities

About You 

To join us as a Battery Systems Engineer, you’ll need: 

- At least five years’ experience in battery system design and development 
- Experience of energy storage systems, as well as high-level electrical and mechanical system design 
- A track record of communicating with stakeholders and technical and business teams to collect requirements and describe product features and technical designs 
- Knowledge of the design and operation of BMS 
- Demonstrable technical knowledge of battery technology 
- Proficiency in defining equipment specifications and external work packages 
- At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline 

Experience of aerospace standards certification would be beneficial, as would knowledge of current and developing electric vehicle and aircraft technologies. 

Other companies may call this role Power Systems Designer, Systems Engineer, Battery Systems Designer, Electrical Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Systems Designer or Product Development Engineer. 

The successful candidate will be required to provide proof that they have the right to work in the UK.
