Our client has been established for almost 70 years and specialise in the delivery of bespoke civil and structural engineering solutions to a diverse range of customers throughout the British Isles. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Buyer to complement their established and professional team.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, and based in Telford the successful buyer candidate will be tasked with a range of purchasing and procurement activities across a range of Group, Factory and Site departments, scheduling programmed deliveries and managing a portfolio of approved suppliers.

Responsible for the development and evaluation of suppliers to be used in the Company Supply Chain, as a buyer you will maintain an Approved Supplier Database for the goods and services to be purchased by the company and place enquiries for products and services to be purchased in accordance with the required specification and contract requirements.

You will produce cost analysis for products and services to identify cost saving benefits and negotiate prices and terms for the benefit of the company, whilst ensuring that all items meet the relevant specification and contract requirements, so exceptional communication and negotiation skills at all levels are essential for the position.

You will also be responsible for researching both new and existing products and services, ensuring compliance with the relevant specification and requisite accreditations, and raising and placing formal orders through the company’s financial package for products and services, including company stock. Other duties will include progressing placed orders to minimise disruption and ensuring timely delivery and updating the company financial package with received orders and maintaining the purchase order day book as well as associated hire records for externally hired in plant distributing to Contract Managers.

Additionally, you will maintain company stock levels for a range of technical components, process works orders and produce material pick runs for bearing components in conjunction with factory works orders, organising quarterly stock checks and carrying out stock reconciliation as required, whilst regularly liaising with internal and external customers and suppliers in order to develop beneficial relationships. You will also attend project handover and closure meetings and produce packing lists and commercial invoices and assist with letters of credit relating to shipping activities.

To be considered for this varied and challenging buyer role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be qualified to at least NVQ level 4 in Supply Chain Management (or equivalent/similar qualification) or working towards with CIPS Membership and previous experience gained within a purchasing and supply related activity, ideally within a civil engineering or construction environment.
