Role: Senior Civil/Structural Engineer (Defence)
Location: Barrow-In-Furness
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000
Type: Permanent

I am looking to place a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer with Defence and Nuclear experience in an international consultancy’s Barrow-in-Furness office. The role will involve supporting a variety of defence and nuclear schemes at conceptual stage, design analysis/modification or construction. You will contribute to a variety of nuclear new-build / refurbishment schemes, facilities/structures for the Ministry of Defence and other private firms that support defence-related projects, with project values running in to the £billions.

From a more technical standpoint, you will design/assess complex structures to resist static and dynamic loading, impacts, vibration and mechanical handling. It is highly desirable that you have an understanding of non-linear buckling behaviour, soil-structure interaction and safety critical design for nuclear facilities.

Ideally, you will have previous experience within the defence and/or nuclear industry working for large consultants or directly for energy/defence organisations. You will have relevant education of Civil/Structural Engineering either through the HNC/HND or Degree routes, as well as Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (ICE / IStructE). Your experience will help to support the delivery of defence and energy schemes that affect the whole of the UK’s energy supply and national security.

On top of your own design skills, you will manage your own small team of engineers and technicians, supporting delivery across the portfolio of projects. You will also have the opportunity to develop a variety of client relationships, often working embedded within client teams from either the MOD or private energy firm teams.

Due to the nature of work, SC Clearance will be required for this role. Beyond SC Clearance, this role is only open to UK Nationals due to the ‘UK-eyes-only’ nature of some of the assets involved.

Role Requirements:
  • Relevant education Civil/Structural Engineering (HNC/HND/Degree)
  • Chartered Member ICE/IStructE
  • Relevant experience post-chartership within Civil/Structural Engineering
    • Blast Analysis
    • Seismic Analysis
    • Static/Dynamic Loading FEA Analysis (ANSYS preferred, others acceptable)
    • Soil-Structure Interaction
  • SC Clearance
    • UK National
  • British Standards / Eurocodes experience
