Do you have substantial knowledge and experience working on projects requiring multidisciplinary analyses?
The UK Atomic Energy Authority has an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Analyst to join their recently formed Modelling and Assessments Section within the Central Engineering Department.
We are currently looking to recruit an engineering analyst to work with our design teams providing critical engineering simulations within some of our most technically challenging projects.
You will be an integral part of a dynamic team of engineers and analysts (circa 7 engineering analysts). You will be involved mainly with mechanical, thermal or electromagnetic analyses and design and you will work in a project team environment.
Key accountabilities/responsibilities include
- Use established calculation methods and/or create new tools to evaluate design concepts.
- Undertake code testing and validation work for new analysis code modules. Write new analysis code modules to enhance capability of existing analysis platforms.
- Create FE models of components and assemblies, including complex multi-body assemblies and coupled multi-physics analyses. Explore, optimise and verify performance of design concepts.
- Use calculation tools and FE analyses for functional verification of design concepts against defined load specifications.
- Complete process documents and write technical reports. Check the reports of colleagues to maintain standards.
- Represent the UK Atomic Energy Authority in important national and international working groups and conferences.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Knowledge skills and experience
- Bachelor/Master degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or equivalent work experience.
- Mechanical and thermal assessment or electromagnetic analysis knowledge, through first principles and using numerical tools (including Finite Element Analysis).
- Familiarity with CAD tools to create and modify suitable analysis geometries.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent technical writing skills (using standard office suits).
- Experience using ANSYS (including Mechanical APDL) for research, development, or industrial applications.
- Basic programming skills with Python or C++, and simulation specific libraries and macro-languages: ANSYS APDL, VTK, etc.
- As part of your role you may be asked to visit or work in radiation controlled areas or in beryllium controlled areas. Full training and medical assessments will be provided if this is necessary.
- As part of your role you may be required to be available for national and international business travel
