System Technician - North East
Scarborough, North Yorkshire (with regular travel throughout the region)
£25,918 - £30,492 Plus Benefits including Company Vehicle, Excellent Pension, 26 Days’ Holiday

Our client is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service. They’re now looking for a System Technician to join their team.

Whatever the weather, equipment and crew need to operate to the very highest possible technical standards. It will be up to you to ensure this.

This is an ideal opportunity to use your skills working on state-of-the-art lifeboats and associated equipment throughout the North East and occasionally other areas within the UK and ROI.

You will become part of a close team, working with Station Mechanics, Contractors and other Technical staff to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repairs on all of the electronic/electrical equipment and occasionally mechanical equipment within the region. It’s a chance to really make a lifesaving impact on the vital maintenance of lifeboats and their equipment.

To be considered, you will need:

- A time-served engineering apprenticeship or experience in mechanical, electrical and/or electronic engineering
- An NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanical, electrical or electronic discipline
- A full driving licence

At least one of the following is also key:

- Wide knowledge of diesel and petrol engines/electrical systems
- Marine or plant experience
- Experience of construction/modification of electronic equipment
- Experience of the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

Any of the following would be beneficial: a towing licence, PAT testing experience, experience of lorry mounted cranes, knowledge of mobile scaffolding, a Driver CPC or a forklift licence.

The role will also require you to be part of a duty rota and be expected, when required, to work unsociable hours.

As this is a field-based role, you will be required to travel throughout the north region. The role would be ideal for a person based around the Scarborough or North Yorkshire area and may occasionally require you to travel to other regions in the UK and ROI.

Our client is committed to safeguarding; ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. They expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

The closing date for applications is the 19th May 2019, with interviews scheduled to be held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th June 2019.

The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting).

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. Our client is an inclusive organisation and welcomes applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using our client’s expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
