Lead CMM Operative - Global Manufacturer

12.36 per hour

37.5 hours per week working 6am to 2pm Monday to Friday.

A position has arisen at the company's Scunthorpe plant for a Lead CMM Operative.

The Lead CMM Operative Role:

This role will involve writing new programs as well as operation of the CMM. Preparing measurement reports and conducting annual layout verification measurements. To provide support and day to day technical guidance to the CMM operative(s). 

Lead CMM Operative Key Responsibilities:

+ To write new programs from CAD models using PC-DMIS to measure parts. Software used: PC-DMIS 2015.1, CAD+, Hardware: Romer Absolute Arm, with integral scanner.
+ Able to read and understand basic GD&T
+ Provide technical support and guidance to the CMM operative(s).
+ Support metrology Investigation/approval/concerns as appropriate.
+ Preparation and completion of measurement reports / capability data.
+ To follow all relevant instructions, both written and verbal, and highlight any deficiencies observed in the process.
+ Support product and assembly launch activities
+ Inform the dimensional manager of any problems that exist which may affect the quality of the product and VB build.
+ Suggest and support corrective and preventative actions with the aim of better accuracy.
+ To work safely at all times, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations and reporting all Health and Safety concerns immediately.
+ Work with the Engineering team to improve production performance agreed standards and work with team members as needed
+ Other reasonable tasks that may be required as part of the role.


+ Candidates will be a qualified CMM Operator (essential)
+ Suitable leadership qualification i.e. ILM Level 3 (desirable)


+ Able to program with PC-DMIS
+ Competent/advanced experience with Excel and Word
+ Basic understanding of GD&T
+ Knowledge of gauges, Gauge R and R, and capability studies
+ Able to analyse data and trouble shoot once problems found


+ 5 years experience within a relevant automotive engineering environment
+ Experience of using a Romer arm (of similar) and various other measuring equipment
+ Experienced directing / leading a team
+ Fully conversant with automotive quality tools and systems (TS16949 & ISO900)


+ The ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as being able to work within a small team
+ Good dexterity with ability to handle delicate parts sympathetically
+ Ability to coach team members (desirable)

Business / Functional Skills:

+ Excellent organisational, resolution and communication skills
+ Willing to travel if needed within UK and on occasion Europe
+ Knowledge of 5S, Lean Methodology (desirable)
