Commissioning and Development Engineer

East Midlands - Leicester base with UK coverage and occasional overseas travel

Our client can demonstrate almost half a century’s expertise in the design, development and manufacture of bespoke automation and robotic systems, and are regarded by many in the industry as one of the leading automation system solution providers in the whole of the UK. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced commissioning and development engineer to commission and develop special purpose automated machinery and systems for a range of customers and industry sectors globally.

Skilled in the fault finding of control and safety systems both in a Head Office (Leicester area) and customer site environment, you will develop machine processes to achieve performance requirements, programming various robots including 6-axis, SCARA & Delta systems and providing on-site support and servicing of mechanical and electrical systems as required, as well as undertaking upgrades, modifications and enhancements to existing systems and providing customer training on delivered machines.

As a commissioning and development engineer you will be tasked with developing and commissioning machines and associated machine control systems, and will undertake extensive FAT, SAT and machine performance testing and will be responsible for all aspects of machine functionality, testing to ensure machine electrical systems and safety systems comply with all relevant European and international standards and providing both operator training and customer support that will include visits to customer’s site throughout the UK (and occasionally overseas) as well as assisting in the installation, commissioning and troubleshooting as required.

To be considered for this diverse and challenging commissioning and development engineer role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be a multi-skilled engineer with at least 5 years’ experience allied to the automation machinery sector and have a good mixture of hands on skills, understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to demonstrate a good level of competency with machine control systems, ideally gained in an Automation systems or Machinery environment. You will be highly skilled in PLC coding and troubleshooting on Omron, B&R, Siemens and Mitsubishi platforms with experience of programming and integrating 6-axis, Scara or Delta robots into Automation systems proving distinctly advantageous.

You will realistically hold relevant Electrical engineering qualifications combined with a comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, including commissioning and fault finding and an understanding of Pneumatic circuits. Experience of interfacing to Injection Moulding Machines would also prove distinctly advantageous – and as the role is both team and customer focussed, excellent communication skills at all levels and a full UK driving licence are essential for the position.

In return, an excellent benefits package and genuine scope to progress your career into a management position supervising a team of design engineers is available for the right candidate – so if you believe you possess the relevant skills and experience for this position, in the first instance send your cv to service@p-t-r.co.uk or call the Service team on 01827 68400 for further details.
