We are looking to recruit a Group Leader who will joining the Fusion Technology - Technical Department. You will be managing a team developing the technological solution to fusion power. The group is a multi-disciplinary team that delivers emergent technology concepts, working on a broad portfolio of projects across the UKAEA organisation. Their primary focus is on delivering practical, innovative technology solutions which support the realisation of commercially viable fusion power.

Job Description

 

Who are we looking for?

 

As a successful Engineer or Scientist, you are expected to have a strong academic or industrial track record in a range of fields as well as a strong track record of industrial engagement and attracting grant-based and commercial funding. You will be building and leading a group of professionals that work on a variety of challenging projects, by directing and mentoring a high-performing and evolving team.

 

You will be a customer-focused leader in your regular dealings with contractors and other government bodies as well as maintaining good working relationships within the team and with colleagues across our organisation.

 

Excellent leadership is essential, together with proven verbal communication skills and the ability to deliver technology innovation to support our growth.

 

What will you be responsible for?

 

As a Group Leader, you will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of the team including supporting the section leaders, the allocation of resources to projects, the quality of the work delivered, recruitment and training.

 

The Engineering Realisation Group Leader also provides expertise and leadership for the technical execution of projects. The role encompasses the full project lifecycle support, from concept development, developing a technical execution strategy, through delivery of the engineering solution to pre-commissioning and handover to the operations team. The job holder will also play a key role in identifying and securing new grant funding. In this capacity, you will have the opportunity to show your ability to contribute and influence in the area by engaging with internal stakeholders, academia and national and international industry.

 

Qualifications

 

Essential qualification, skills, experience and competences required:

 

- Qualified as a professional Engineer or Scientist in a relevant discipline holding Chartered status or working towards chartership with a professional body

- Significant experience delivering technology innovation

- Strong experience of collaborative working with external bodies including universities, research agencies, and industry

- Excellent communicator who is able to build first class relationships internally, externally, and in a multinational community

- Experience of leading a research team and a passion for supporting individuals and teams with their development
