Whatever the weather, our client’s equipment and lifeboat crew need to operate to the very highest possible technical standards - it’ll be up to you to ensure this.

Primarily working from their support centre in Ballymoney, but also working around the coast in support of our client’s lifeguards and lifeboats, they are now looking for a Systems Technician to join their team. This is an ideal opportunity to use your mechanical / electrical skills working on state-of-the-art Lifeboats, Lifeguarding and associated launching equipment.

You will be part of a team working closely with Station Mechanics, Contractors and other Technical staff carrying out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repairs.

The role as a Systems Technician requires a minimum (Level 6 on the National Qualification framework) or working towards this. You will ideally have an NVQ, City and Guilds or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline, ideally with knowledge of petrol or high-speed diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electronic control systems and the use of electronic diagnostic equipment. You must have completed a time-served apprenticeship in marine or vehicle-based engineering.

This role is suitable for someone that is self-motivated and willing to go that extra mile, working either as a part of a team or under their own initiative to the highest of standards with a first fix approach to return our client’s assets back on service as soon as possible. The candidate will need to take on new ideas and undertake training.

Towing License preferred – but training can be given if necessary. As this is a field-based role, you will be required to travel extensively throughout Ireland and occasionally to other areas of the United Kingdom.

You will need to hold a full valid driving licence (HGV desirable), plus the willingness and flexibility to work out of hours when the need arises and also take part on an on-call rota basis.

This role comes with a van and other excellent benefits including 26 days’ holiday, excellent pension scheme with life cover, health cash plan and more. Please take a look at the attached employee benefits summary document which will give full details.

Our client is committed to safeguarding, ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk.  They expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting).

Their staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards Our Client’s Vision: To save everyone.

This post requires a valid driving licence.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.
