WHAT TO EXPECT

The Aerodynamics Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the development of all aspects of the external aerodynamic performance of a series of JLR vehicles.  Working closely with the Design team to bring to life their creative vision in a way that supports the efficiency and performance needs of our customers.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

 

  • Leading development of a series of JLR vehicles to meet aerodynamic attribute performance targets.
  • Supported by members of the team who specialise in CAD creation and Buck build, CFD simulation and wind tunnel testing. 
  • Working closely with the Lead Engineers for other JLR vehicles.
  • Leading detailed development and testing in addition to overall project managing the programme.
  • Characterising the geometric sensitivities for key areas of the car and determining optimum geometry for aero. 
  • Conducting wind tunnel tests using facility in Germany.
  • Working closely with Design (styling) and Engineering teams to realise these proposals and strike the best balance for the customer.
  • Presenting Aerodynamic attribute status at programme meetings up to and including Chief Engineer level.
  • Supporting the development of less experienced engineers within the team
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

The ideal candidate would have proven experience of Lift and Drag development within the automotive sector, with knowledge of Aero-Acoustics and Water and Dirt Management being desirable.

Essential:

  • Educated to Degree level (ideally with a focus on Aerodynamics) with a good level of relevant industrial experience
  • Self-starting and motivated to deliver class leading aerodynamic performance
  • Strong technical background, with proven experience of vehicle (ideally passenger car) aerodynamic development
  • Experience of wind tunnel testing and/or conducting/interpreting CFD analyses
  • Good project management skills and the ability to lead a focused technical project team
  • Confident at presenting to all levels within the company and a proven ability to influence

Desirable:

  • Experience of passenger car Aero-Acoustics
  • Experience of Water & Dirt Management
  • Experience of thermodynamics or related discipline
