About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Airfield Services Team at QinetiQ to provide avionics technician support on our rotary wing aircrafts at Boscombe Down, working predominantly on the Merlin Aircraft project.

You will be work on a project that revolves around a Royal Navy Airborne Surveillance and Control (ASaC) Helicopter and will ensure that the CrowsNest Merlin aircraft/equipment maintenance and trials flying are carried out efficiently and to quality in accordance with regulatory and corporate procedures. The trials flying incorporates a phase of Flying then the aircraft is put in to a maintenance package of circa 4-8 weeks to clear maintenance for the next phase of Flight Trials activity. To do this, the applicant will need advanced and specialised skills to carry out the Merlin maintenance activities and solving problems of a routine nature.

You will be working from an airbase at Boscombe Down near Salisbury and will have the opportunity to learn new skills and develop into and array of different areas across the airfield and business at QinetiQ.


What do I need?

You will need to be able to demonstrate that you have worked across technical processes within aviation engineering.

We would also like you to have:

  • Ideally experience working on Merlin Mk2 or Mk4 but similar rotary-wing aircrafts acceptable
  • Good knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the range of processes, procedures and systems to be used in carrying out assigned tasks and a basic understanding of the underlying concepts and principles upon which the job is based
  • Good fault identification and isolation skills
  • BTEC Diploma or NVQ Level 3 in engineering or equivalent


What will I be doing?

  • Operating on the aircraft while it's flying, during take-off and landing
  • Ensure that the Merlin/CROWSNEST aircraft/equipment maintenance and trials flying are carried out efficiently and to quality in accordance with regulatory and corporate procedures
  • Completion of tasking within the scheduled time and at an appropriate quality
  • Ensuring that you have the appropriate tools and equipment to carry out assigned tasks
