We are a family-owned automation specialist in the disciplines of motion control, flow control and sensor applications. We offer a wide range of servo and motion control products and have been active in the market since 1985.

Motor Technology is the UK agent for several well-known and trusted manufacturers from Europe and around the world. The position is focused on the support and growth of our MOTION product area, which includes products such as motion controllers, associated control equipment such as HMI's, servo and stepper drives and motors, direct drive motors, precision planetary & worm gearboxes, precision couplings and actuators.

These form the basis of our product offering and the solutions we provide and are supplied as individual components or as part of a drive solution or complete control package.

We believe in offering customers the support they require which can range from specifying a single component to designing a turn-key motion control system.

The position being offered is that of Business Development Engineer for the MOTION product and solution offering. The position is long term and there is excellent potential for the right candidate to become part of a close-knit team and grow with the company.

Job Role:

Main activities and skillset include, but are not limited to:

Initial Contact with Prospects:

• Establishing new and maintaining existing relationships with customers
• Searching for new clients who could benefit from your products
• Qualify prospects in both technical and commercial capabilities
• Identify key personnel and build relationships on and off site
• Use of CRM to plan all sales activities
• Represent the company at relevant trade fairs and exhibitions

Customer Project Development:

• Identifying project viability and parameters such as life of the project, quantities, prototype information, development road map.
• Extract application data and assist with the following in conjunction with our technical team:
  • Understanding all aspects of the application in terms of functionality, safety, and environment
  • Identifying correct motion control, drive, and feedback options for the application
  • Dimensioning drives, servomotors, power transmission components and actuators
  • Defining and agreeing the scope of supply
  • Assist with commissioning of product supplied

Customer Service and Support:

• Use of tools such as phone, email, Teams for remote support
• Developing relationships with suppliers
• Training and personal development
• Contribute to the development of the overall sales strategy
• There may be instances where on-site support at the customer is required

About You:

• Successfully completed studies or technician training in electrical engineering, automation technology, mechatronics, or related disciplines
• You will have some experience with servo & motion control systems
• You will have experience in working in some of the following phases of an engineering project, design, test, programming, support, installation, and/or commissioning
• You will have previous experience using Microsoft office
• A second language, especially German and/or Italian, would be considered a bonus. Clean driving licence
• Enjoy sales and dealing with customers
• Ability to self-organize and work in a team
• Convincing appearance, confidence in negotiations and strong communication skills
• Business thinking
• Eager to travel
• Candidates ideally within commuting distance from Stockport, however this is not essential
