We're looking for a dynamic and inspirational leader to make a real impact by becoming our new Chief Engineer Integrated Product Support (IPS). This role is new position, created as a result of our continued growth and will provide leadership and management of a team of IPS professionals.

The role

As a Chief Engineer, you'll lead on the design, implementation and delivery of through life support solutions, aligning with our developments in technologies, innovation and capabilities. You'll also have direct line management responsibilities for some of the ILS team and functional responsibilities for the ILS Team deployed on projects and tasks. The development of our team is important to us and as such, you will be an inspirational mentor to Principal, Senior and IPS Engineers. As part of this role, you will own and manage a training plan for all individuals that are aligned to the meet the demand and supply processes and future capabilities.

Day to day, you'll

  • Develop of our ILS/IPS/IKM toolset, as we continue on our path to further adopt the S-Series specifications
  • You will provide assurance of IPS activities, create and implement improvement plans and provide a reporting function to senior management.
  • You will play an important part of business winning activities, as such you will provide assurance and oversight of bids considering through life support requirements and interfaces with other disciplines and areas of the business.
  • You will ensure that our capabilities are promoted within business development to both influence future opportunities and to increase PWin.
  • As a lead role in the supportability discipline, you will be required to promote all aspects of through life support, internally and externally; this may include presentations and attendance at various forums and conferences.
  • You will play a key role in the management of the team to meet demands.

The successfurl candidate will have a high level of autonomy to manage the supportability discipline in order to meet the requirements of projects. Some travel to other sites is required, as our teams operate within a hybrid, flexible arrangement, mostly centred around our sites at Plymouth and Bristol. Some travel to customer and supplier sites, is also required in order to collaborate with our partners.

Essential experience of the Chief Engineer:

  • Extensive experience of supporting complex systems and equipment, particularly software-intensive capabilities.
  • Deep knowledge of ILS/IPS standards, particularly Def Stan 00-600.
  • A working knowledge and understanding of ASD Specifications.
  • Level-6 or above qualification or equivalent in experience.
  • Leadership and management experience of multi-disciplined teams.
  • Business winning activities, including bid writing/generation, oversight and reviews.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
