WHAT TO EXPECT
 Jaguar Land Rover has an opportunity for a high calibre and experienced Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering – Engine, Batteries and Drives (ME EB&D) team as a MNF Lead Engineer. The team is developing to support future engine developments for the complete range Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. You will be responsible for developing our new, technologically advanced emachine & powertrain facilities that are currently under design and manufacture to support the Jaguar Land Rover global powertrain initiatives.

 

The ME EB&D department are responsible for the development and introduction of new and modified processes and facilities associated with new model introductions and model year changes, within emachine, assembly and test. Additionally, we are responsible and accountable for engineering issues in the day to day running of the Engine Manufacturing Centre. 

 

You will be a key part of the Assembly team, working closely with Product Development Engineers, Facility vendors and Tooling Suppliers to ensure that component and whole engine / emachine designs meet world class quality and efficiency standards. ME EB&D are on a journey of self-sufficiency, and we are looking for individuals who can bring experience of developing manufacturing systems in house and helping us define make vs buy opportunities/risks.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • You will utilise your knowledge to develop and implement manufacturing and test processes and facilities to deliver the safety, quality delivery and cost objectives.
  • Leading Manufacturing engineering team on powertrain/emachine programs through the program life cycle (end to end delivery of programs) starting from process design to delivery of facility ready for production.
  • Responsible for Planning and coordinating with Product development team for delivery of new powertrain program and implementation of design for manufacture by creating Bill of sequence, Bill of Process and manufacturing design standards. 
  • Responsible for designing the manufacturing processes and formulating manufacturing strategy. Creating process standards, equipment standards / specifications and equipment selection.
  • Responsible for future proofing of manufacturing programs with innovative solutions in process and equipment technology. 
  • Responsible for facility planning for new programs which includes, layout planning, planning of services, equipment - type, quantity and specifications, phased capacity installation planning, manpower planning using tools such as Yamazumi and MOST patterns, OEE and OPR planning for the facility.
  • Responsible for implementing APQP for the process engineering scope. Leading and guiding the manufacturing engineering team for the delivery of process standards and documentation such as process documentation, tolerance stacks, PFMEAs, control plans, error proofing etc. 
  • Leading equipment design validation, fixture and tool design, automation system design and designing of concept control system, gauging and metrology for manufacturing facility.
  • Responsible for guiding team into creation of equipment verification plans, process and equipment capability planning using lessons learnt and quality history.
  • Responsible for project management through the program life cycle (end to end delivery of programs) which includes, project planning, monitoring and reporting – creating schedules, gant charts, critical path - planning, monitoring and reporting, resource allocation, risks – reporting, monitoring & mitigation. 
  • Responsible for end to end sourcing of equipment and facilities – creating sourcing strategy, identifying potential supply sources, creating and releasing RFIs, vendor assessment, RFQs, technical evaluation, vendor selection and support in negotiations, order placement, supplier status checks, equipment verification & equipment delivery. 
  • Responsible for leading the team for site preparedness (CDM & layout marking), equipment installation and commissioning – capability studies, resolving operational issues, run at rate trials, and line launch activities. Responsible for handing over the manufacturing facility to operations and monitoring the line and supporting for initial start of production phases. 
  • Responsible for conducting feasibility analysis / make vs buy.
  • Responsible for responding to cost studies for various program gateways through CAPEX budget estimation. Responsible for control of commitment and spend profile / project cash flow. 
  • Leading people engagement and development of the team which includes - Performance Engagement Index and Employee Engagement Index. Developing competencies of the team. Actively engage in PULSE activities. 
  • Ensure adherence to company and departmental operating processes and policies.
  • Represent EB&D at program meetings and launch meeting at all levels and present where applicable
  • Co-ordinate the development and submission of departmental responses to product letters, PACNS etc
  • Achieve Equipment Capability targets of all new & modified facilities, including OPR, MTTR, MTBF.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.
  • Undertake international travel upto 30% of the worktime.
  • Deliver programs at international locations including staying at international locations for periods greater than 3 weeks.
  • This role will interact with remote teams in international locations which need the candidate to interact with remote teams during unsocial hours

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
 Essential:

  • Strong IT skills in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Project) and ability to learn the following: Process Authoring Tools (GSPAS), Visualisation Mock Up, CATIA V6, AutoCAD, Byte Worx, Sociometric Quality Worx, Q-Das.
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment. Fully automatic machines, robot cells, manual assembly workstations, in-process test equipment and ability to analyse and interpret performance data output from those facilities.
  • A good understanding of PCDS (Product Creation & Delivery System) and APQP ( Advanced Product Quality Planning)
  • Previous experience of design and development of powertrain manufacturing processes.
  • A good working knowledge on CAPEX budget estimation and control of commitment and spend profile.
  • Previous experience of facility Installation, commissioning and product Launch. 
  • Good Understanding of process capability & ability to use Minitab software or Q-Das.
  • Baisc level understanding on NC programming and PLC programming.
  • Good understanding and ability to validate equipment design, fixture and tool design, automation system design and designing of concept control system, gauging and metrology for manufacturing facility.
  • Proven project management experience in installation/commissioning programmes
  • Experience and working knowledge of Health and Safety Audits and ergonomics including risk assessments
  • Experience of managing multi skilled teams and projects to successful delivery. 
  • Experience of solving complex problems on product and facility issues. 
  • A clear understanding of GD&T, part tolerances, variability, and methods of location / datum strategy and measurement methods and strategy for manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work outside of traditional working hours if required.

Desirable:

  • Ideally understanding of Jaguar Land Rover Facility Procurement and H&S procedures.
  • Facility system validation and handover to Manufacturing. 
  • Experience in emachine process technology.
