The role
As a Combat System Planner - Boats, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Using your Combat System expertise to assist with planning whole-boat engineering requirements through the entirety of a commission for each of the submarine classes.

Day-to-day, you'll understand the relationships between engineering requirements and their impact on the platform, equipment, infrastructures and resources to effectively plan their implementation against an ever-challenging programme.

Accountabilities:

  • Providing in-service support to the Royal Navy's fleet of submarines.
  • Provide a holistic view and approach to management of maintenance requirements through life, with a primary focus on submarine weapon systems.
  • Liaising with the MoD and Waterfront teams to discuss submarine maintenance requirements.
  • Provide reactive support to the customer for emergent engineering and programme challenges contributing to impact statements and option assessments.
  • Capture, collate and communicate engineering risks, issues, and opportunities through understanding the submarine material state and through life maintenance.


This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Combat System Planner - Boats

  • An in-depth knowledge of Combat Systems as well as a broad knowledge of strategic systems and whole boat engineering requirements.
  • Experience and understanding of Submarine Weapon Systems and associated maintenance requirements.
  • Vanguard and Astute Class Submarine knowledge and experience is highly desirable.


Qualifications for the Combat System Planner - Boats

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering-based discipline or HND Foundation Degree with relevant experience.
  • Hold (or demonstrate progression towards) a minimum of Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
  • Member of relevant professional engineering bodies.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
