The role
As a Commercial Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will play a key role in influencing Babcock's support to international collaborative programmes, whilst being driven to achieve positive outcomes and identifying ways for continuous improvement.

Day to day, you'll lead on two strategic future submarine contracts and support the company's international opportunities with Australia and the US, working to secure Babcock's position in the future. You will be working to ensure the financial and commercial interests of the company are optimised, supporting the achievement of financial targets and ensuring that contractual obligations and associated risks are adequately dealt with.

Responsibilities as Commercial Manager will also include:

  • Leading a team of four in supporting the commercial discussions with customers and industry parties on the contracts and other international opportunities
  • Providing commercial advice to internal stakeholders, preparing and reviewing commercial documents (strategic agreements, bidding documents, non-disclosure agreements)
  • Preparing and reviewing commercial governance documents and work closely with other areas of the business (finance, supply chain, project, operations, estimating etc.)
  • Interacting with both internal stakeholders (project, finance, supply chain, senior management team) and external stakeholders (customer (MOD) and suppliers) and therefore the ability to communicate well and manage stakeholder relationships is a key asset.

You'll be required to work 36 hours per week (Monday-Friday). We offer hybrid working with 2-3 days required onsite at Babcock Technology Centre, Bristol.

Essential experience of the Commercial Manager - Future Submarines:

  • Experience in preparing commercial bids or leading Government bid evaluation teams
  • A sound understanding of the UK Government contracting terms and policies including SSCR, with an emphasis on long-term collaborating and performance-based contracts
  • Demonstration of creating and maintaining positive working relationships with both clients and suppliers/subcontractors

Qualifications for the Commercial Manager - Future Submarines:

  • The successful candidate must be a sole UK citizen and able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
