Location: Bristol, St Annes Road (with travel to customers premises as required)

Hours: Full Time (40hrs per week)

08.00 - 17.30hrs Monday to Thursday, 08:30 - 15:00hrs Friday

What are we looking for?

The Commissioning/Applications Engineer will work within the engineering and sales teams to help support new and existing customers. On site technical assistance and service is required alongside Commissioning and surveying.

GDS has a wide selection of standard products we make, but a large part of our work is tailoring lighting and control solutions to each of our customer's needs. This could be a simple variation, or a complete new custom designed project.

We are looking for an engineer that enjoys challenges and solving problems and likes a lot of variety in their work. Has a good all round engineering knowledge and appreciates electrical and electronic theory. Has good communication skills and customer facing rapport.

Lighting and controls experience is an obvious benefit, but not essential. The team are supportive and can help with learning the ins and outs of our systems and technology.

We are looking for someone who can effectively work with customers directly and as part of a team to resolve customer issues, complete system commissioning and undertake any on site technical service and support as and where required. System design and implementation is an element to the role, where working with the sales team is required to create appropriate control systems.

Knowledge of Solidworks/CAD is an advantage but not necessary.

Your responsibilities:

  • Complete On-site Commissioning.
  • Help with tech support and returns, on site and in office.
  • Work with sales and engineering for design and implement lighting control systems.
  • Ensure all documentation and drawings are wrapped up and complete.
  • Ensure good customer service and communication. Generate a good communication loop to engineering and R&D regarding customer feedback.

  • A good all-round experience in practical engineering and lighting.
  • Self-motivated and able to problem solve
  • A good positive gets it done attitude
  • Good communication skills

Bonus skills:

  • Solidworks / ACAD experience
  • Previous lighting technology experience
  • Manufacturing experience.
  • IPAF and CSCS Card certificates.
  • Electrical and electronic Engineering experience.
