The Commissioning Engineer Electrical - Combat Systems role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Commissioning Engineer Electrical - Combat Systems will make
As a Commissioning Engineer Electrical - Combat Systems, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a varied role working on complex electrical systems, on one of the most advanced naval platforms worldwide. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the platform meets both the quality and operational requirements of the royal navy. It will give you the opportunity to improve both your knowledge of the business and develop experience in the commissioning of nuclear submarines.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for the commissioning and de-commissioning activities across all projects. You'll also be responsible for providing design intent assurance to the customer and relevant design authorities through robust inspections, testing and commissioning against design specifications.

Essential experience

* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline
* ONC or HNC within an engineering discipline with relevant experience - beneficial
* Knowledge and experience of electrical systems on nuclear submarines or a good transferable engineering background
* Sound and demonstrable knowledge of safe release of systems, Control of Work (CoW) process and Safe Systems of work (SSoW).
* Ability to interrogate and understand complex engineering drawings, specifications, documents etc.
* Previous experience of fault finding and the associated processes
* The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
