Who are we looking for?
Are you a Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer with experience in the design and installation of control systems, looking to develop your career in a technically varied and interesting environment?
The Hydrogen-3 Advanced Technology centre (H3AT) is looking for a C&I Engineer to support our control system team based in UKAEA, Culham. This is an exciting job opportunity with a remit for strong technical delivery, working alongside scientists, process, mechanical, material and safety Engineers. An enthusiastic approach to work and desire to learn are essential to succeed in this role.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the design, implementation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the existing and planned new state-of-the-art Tritium facilities at Culham, as well as to get involved in a series of innovation technology projects.
What will you be responsible for?
- Operations support, maintenance, and modifications of the control system in the Tritium plant. This will include working with the existing DCS and PLC infrastructure (ABB800Xa and Siemens S7), and producing plant operation and maintenance procedures
- Control & Instrumentation activities in a series of ground-breaking bench scale Tritium projects. This may include working with LabVIEW
- Leading C&I activities through the lifecycle of the projects - design, procurement, implementation, installation, commissioning, system changes and decommissioning. Producing technical specifications, loop diagrams, control philosophies, P&IDs and test procedures
- Interacting with other disciplines and review of their input documents including Process Flow Diagrams, design requirements, hazard analysis, layout drawings, etc
- Supporting the design, installation, commissioning, and operation of a brand-new Tritium facility to be built and operational by 2024 at the UKAEA Culham site
NOTE - Occasional shift work may be required to complete modifications in non-operational periods
Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competence required
- Degree (or equivalent training / experience) in an appropriate engineering or scientific field that includes elements of electronic, software programming and experiment / systems design
- Demonstrable relevant professional experience in an industrial or academic environment
- Good interpersonal skills to deal with internal customers and external suppliers
- Demonstrable skills in problem solving and logical thinking
- Sound understanding of safe working practices
- Ability to work in teams or independent
