The role

As a Deputy Plant Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Supporting defueling of the legacy submarine fleet, this is a unique opportunity as this is only conducted in Plymouth. This is an essential part of the MOD submarine disposal strategy.

Day to day, you'll be a Duly Appointed Person where you will be critical to the delivery of arrangements intended to ensure compliance with site licence and authorisation conditions and the terms of environment permits in support of submarine defueling operations.

  • Ensure there are valid safety cases in place that cover the full scope of intended operations and support the safe operation of all plant and the conduct of processes under their control
  • Act as a Facility Procedural Authorisation Group (PAG) Chair for the authorisation and release of appropriate procedures for the conduct of operations, facility maintenance and repair
  • Ensure a safe and secure working environment, including the upkeep of appropriate operation records and suitable functional oversight of the work being undertaken
  • Ensure the design intent of the facility is met and maintained and that there is an awareness and enforcement of the operating regime within a facility by adhering to operating rules, operating boundaries and operating instructions
  • Support the Plant Manager in interactions with the nuclear and environmental regulators and will deputise for the Plant Manager as required.

Essential experience of the Deputy Plant Manager:

  • Knowledge of nuclear facilities/submarine maintenance
  • Experience of working within the constraints of a safety case and license or authorised conditions
  • Equivalent training and experience can be considered such as a previously qualified Royal Navy Category A watch keeper or suitable experience from other nuclear installations

This is a full time role based on site (36 hours) based at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Qualifications for the Deputy Plant Manager:

  • Relevant engineering degree (or equivalent) or significant experience of nuclear facilities management
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent recognised professional status - beneficial

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC, NNPPI - British National and potentially Atomic security clearance for this role.
