WHAT TO EXPECT

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Durability & Robustness attribute and interfaces between the programme delivery team and D&R test functions.

The focus of this role is to integrate vehicle test activities into the vehicle programmes, ensuring validation testing is completed to plan and to the required quality.

The role also includes:

  • Leading the preparation and de-preparation of test properties, managing vehicle updates and test spares, test property sign-off and post-test inspection and non-destructive testing
  • Supporting the delivery of data from tests that are validation events for design release activity or technology advancement
  • Coordination of test facility and instrumentation preparation such that measurements of network data and a range of physical qualities, such as pressures and temperatures, are collected

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Ownership of pre- and post- test vehicle and rig property activities
  • Interface with stakeholders effectively, working closely to deliver vehicles, components and software to the correct specification, resolving issues promptly and escalating as necessary
  • Provide continuous support for D&R tests run internally and by third parties
  • Ensure Rigs and Spares are procured with the appropriate level and quantity of parts.
  • Provide support in relevant technical reviews and assist issue resolution through established processes and standard JLR tools (AIMS/8D)
  • Collate data on the outcome of some individual vehicle and rig based tests and support the development of conclusions and recommendations
  • Work closely with test engineers and programme leads to ensure timely delivery of build/teardown activity to support the test & programme requirements
  • Support continuous improvement activity, potentially including creation and maintenance of JLR company standards relevant to role (Test Procedure and Engineering Standards / Risk Assessments)
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager, at the appropriate site, in connection with their job as may be requested

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential:

  • Technical expertise and experience of vehicle preparation and test facilities
  • Good understanding of whole vehicle hardware and software systems
  • Data analysis and reporting of test data
  • Natural problem-solver with structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment
  • The ability to validate, prepare and read engineering documents
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH and SDS
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs, process and Single Point Lesson (SPL) documents
  • A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification, 2 years accident free record

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of durability full vehicle testing including off-road driving, trailer towing and proving ground use
  • Experienced with data acquisition and control systems
  • Knowledge of instrument calibration processes and data collection
  • Educated to Degree level in a Systems, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic or related field
  • Six Sigma, Green Belt Training and certification
  • Experience with TS16949 or ISO9001 standards and requirement
