WHAT TO EXPECT
This role sits within Engineering Operations (EO), specifically the Power electronics test laboratory “Powerlab”. The department delivers test capability to support design, development and validation of Jaguar Land Rovers future electrified powertrain from early prototype controls development to vehicle level SW and calibration sign off and legislative compliance testing.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the operational readiness, opening and continued operation of a new test facility. The test facility will be based at Whitley and support Jaguar Land Rover’s growth in Power Electronics Testing. The Power electronics laboratory will combine Inverter, DCDC, AC / DC Charging and EVSE testing. Using a combination of specialist test cells, a dedicated test lab and vehicles to deliver high quality test data in a safe, controlled environment.
Inverter Test Operations Lead Engineer is responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians who will ensure that the test automation systems, related control solutions and services are managed to the highest operational standards at all times and meet the customer expectations.
The lead engineer will deliver robust processes and plans for preventative & predictive maintenance, quality checks & assurance, legislated calibration & validation routines and the tracking, storage and reporting of the data which supports these processes. They will supervise the day-to-day workflow that enables these activities. In order to maintain operational standards, they will deliver accurate budget forecasts which cover routine maintenance, breakdown support and future upgrades.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
You will develop training packages to develop the skills within the team to deliver simulation techniques to emulate vehicle environment within testbed: Deliver Training and develop processes for set up of PUMA simulation systems for Electric machines, Encoders, batteries, and Deliver training and develop processes for instrumentation setup. You will ensure facility utilisation targets and testing gateways are achieved: De-risking through planning and preparation, and ensure continuous workflow by reviewing and preparing upcoming tests via operational meetings. You will also maximise the use of automation to improve utilisation, repeatability, and quality, take ownership of any issues and work with supporting teams to resolve with urgency, and follow existing and update best practices to support required level of output data quality.
