As Engineering Design Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing part of the business undergoing significant transformation to support the Devonport Facilities requirements of the Future Maritime Support Programme.

Due to the regulatory framework in which we work, the application of Babcock's Business Management System is key. Day to day, you'll be responsible for managing the technical aspects of a project, from identification of the need through to handover, acting as the Technical Authority single point of contact, organising and leading resources as the project demands.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Scoping and managing the technical delivery of projects throughout their lifecycle
  • Supporting the Design Management Group to manage the development and delivery of complex design solutions within safety critical facilities, to quality, time and budget
  • Securing, organising and leading internal and external resources as the project demands
  • Ensuring that design outputs are fit for purpose and delivered within agreed budgetary and schedule constraints
  • Developing and applying a structured design process in a proportionate manner that reflects conventional and nuclear facility applications

This role is full time 36 hours and is based onsite with hybrid working from home arrangements.

Essential experience of the Engineering Design Manager:

  • Have a strong technical background and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills due to the levels of stakeholder management required by the role
  • Sound understanding of designing and substantiating solutions for safety-critical applications, gained ideally from the nuclear or other regulated industry
  • Experience of the design lifecycle and a logical approach to problem solving

Qualifications for the Design Manager:

  • You will hold a Degree in a STEM subject (or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience)
  • Registered as a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer. If not registered then you should be able to evidence that you are working towards this, along with holding membership of a relevant professional institution

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.

Our Benefits:

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance
  • Employee share scheme
  • Employee shopping savings portal
  • Payment of Professional Fees
  • Reservists in the armed forces receive 10 days special paid leave
  • Holiday Trading is a benefit that allows the majority of employees to buy additional leave or to sell up to one working week of annual leave from their annual entitlement
  • 'Be Kind Day' enables employees to take one working day's paid leave a year (or equivalent hours) to undertake volunteering work with their chosen organisation or registered charity
