Be part of the QinetiQ journey. We are currently recruiting a MEngineering Manager to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Operations Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.

QTS is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and operation of advanced target systems for live-fire training exercises and weapons test and evaluation. Reporting to the Vice President, you will have direct responsibility for leading a significant cross-functional project, initially focusing on evolving our current Aerial Target technology into broader Unmanned Systems applications.

The role

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager reporting to the Director of Operations, you will build upon the experience you bring to the role, instilling best practice in manufacturing engineering activities

Day-to-day, you'll drive development and refinement of production systems, process and tooling; resulting in reduced lead times, Cost of Goods (COGs) and increasing productivity.

  • Establish systems for the identification and quantification Identify of sources of waste throughout the production activities on site, running a portfolio of improvement projects to minimise
  • Provide balance to the production process flow by ensuring effective batch size and take time information is maintained on the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • Identify opportunity and collaborate with production engineering to optimise structure and standardise product Bill of Materials (BoM)
  • Bring direction and training to the broader operations and site team on waste identification and reduction, lean6σ tools and techniques and productivity improvement, using influence and data to resolve complex multifaceted challenges
  • Optimisation of production layout, providing an identifiable product flow, flexibility to support a portfolio of products and minimisation of transportation, waiting and movement wastes
  • Design and develop flexible work cell design supporting the portfolio of products and minimising time for reconfiguration to support the build plan
  • Continuous improvement in Work in Progress (WIP) and Final Test yield, implementing Poka-Yoke solutions
  • Conduct pFMEA for manufacturing processes, ensuring suitable controls in place to mitigate

This role is full-time, 37-hours per week, and based at our Ashford site.

Skills and experience of the Engineering Manager:

  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015)
  • Successfully run Lean6σ projects. Ideally Black Belt
  • Demonstrable project experience for production area design and layout
  • Strong analytical skills and financially numerate
  • Complimentary experience in a production management or production engineering role
  • CAD package experience
  • Solid understanding of ERP systems
