An exciting opportunity to support the delivery of the FASGW live qualification programme

Salary: Circa £55.000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: Generally 2-3 days per week on-site. DW is possible through a close working team approach, with presence needed on site leading a small team of engineers who will also need to support specific intense periods at the offsite trials location.  Travel to the test site will be required to support the programme delivery

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen for the Ground Trials Manager role within the FASGW Trials Team. Reporting to the Chief Systems Proving Engineer (CSPE) the role will manage the delivery of the FASGW live qualification programme at an offsite test location.

This will involve leadership of the established small multifunctional project team to deliver the programme of work and support the delivery of the testing outputs into the UK and French customer and their subject matter experts for review and agreement.

The role will require a dynamic, autonomous and proactive individual with good technical knowledge, experience in team leadership / management and the ability to influence and engage at multiple different levels with the different internal stakeholders, external test houses and various seniors within the programme and wider business with a vested interest in the critical qualification programme activities.

Responsibilities of the role are:

  • Supporting engineering leadership team with planning, reporting and problem solving across the mechanical / climatic and EMC qualification scope.
  • Overall responsibility for delivery of all Missile Mechanical & Climatic trials – Liaising with internal environmental test SMEs, Trial Conduct, Schedule Adherence, Resource Allocation, safety, requirements coherence….
  • Working with internal procurement team to manage the external test house programmes: contracts and progress, reqts, test compliance, schedule etc.
  • Management of the live build capability for trials assets, compliance of production methodology, safety, competency and capability delivery at non-MBDA facility.
  • Management and Oversight of trials conduct process adherence
  • Multifunctional Team Leadership alongside ISV team day to day management – Support personal development, Identify training needs, Sickness/absence management etc.
  • Work Package Management responsibility for the packages of work delegated from the CSPE
  • Establish and maintain working groups for Assurance and trials delivery stakeholder groups

What we're looking for from you:

  • Mechanical and Climatic trials or test experience preferable
  • Work Package Management and schedule management experience required
  • Practical experience of quality processes, especially non-conformance management.
  • Awareness of test methodologies for functional test of weapon systems preferable (Special to Type Test Equipment, Test Setups, etc)
  • Leadership skills, with people management experience
  • Problem solving mind-set
  • Communication skills, especially progress reporting, facilitating investigations and resource/facility planning

This role would suit an engineer with practical experience in trails conduct and looking to build on existing (or to develop new) people management skills with a small team of engineers and also the wider group of project teams that support the delivery of trials hardware and trials conduct.

A keen eye for integrity and improvement opportunities would be an advantage as we look to achieve the live qualification of FASGW product.
