Role Type: Full time / Permanent
Role ID: SF56771

At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and when you join us, you can play your part as a First Line Manager at our Rosyth site.

Our department consists of four teams that operate on a rotation to produce submarine components for ongoing projects commissioned for the American and British Navies. This ensures continuous quality production and timely delivery of the components, meeting the demands of both navel forces.

The role
As a First Line Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Using your developed leadership skills, you will oversee a team of 10 to 15 members, including welders and fabricators, ensuring that tasks are completed safely, on time, and with a quality output that meets operational standards and production schedules efficiently.

Day-to-day, you'll begin by receiving the handover from the previous production supervisor. Afterward, you'll strategize the shop floor approach for the shift, delegate tasks to your team, review the schedule and movements, and pinpoint areas where your team may need support. You will also:

  • Engage with team to communicate corporate expectations, provide coaching, and optimize performance.
  • Ensure adherence to method statements, risk assessments, and necessary documentation.
  • Keep documentation updated, including progress registers, accident reports, and disciplinary records.
  • Provide technical advice and encourage process improvement and adoption of new technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within operations.

This full-time role at Rosyth requires 39 hours per week, based onsite. The work pattern involves a 24/6 shift rotation, covering both day and night shifts. Occasional weekend overtime may be necessary, compensated with additional pay.

Essential experience of the First Line Manager

  • Strong leadership skills with experience leading teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety initiatives and a safety-focused mindset (IOSH training preferred).
  • Proven track record of delivering projects with a focus on quality.
  • Previous production experience, adept at working to schedules, meeting deadlines, and problem-solving.
  • Trade experience (e.g., welder or fabricator) preferred, but not required.

Qualifications for the First Line Manager

  • It's ideal to have one of the following: a degree, Higher National Diploma, Higher National Certificate or BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in engineering, or similar qualification, or experience.

We value difference and don't have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience then we would like to hear from you.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC).

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
