The role

As a Health & Safety Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Babcock provides services including fleet time engineering, facilities management, waterfront services, logistics and transport within an agreed operating budget, firmly focused on continuous and sustainable improvement in warship and submarine support

Day to day, you'll lead and manage the Health and Safety team ensuring effective provision of competent support across the health and safety function to meet budget, schedule and quality requirements to the satisfaction of both our Business and the Ministry of Defence. You will provide a professionally competent Health & Safety Assurance service within the base with the ultimate aim of supporting all staff throughout HMNB Clyde to "Go Home Safe everyday".


* Implement and adhere to the overall Health and Safety policies as set out to us by the Ministry of Defence and Babcock International's company directive, continually driving safe working attitudes across our business, the customer and subcontractors onsite.
* Ensure the maximisation the utilisation and the efficiency of all the department's resource without comprising the quality requirements.
* Lead and motivate all the Health and Safety Specialists and Practitioners to deliver the main purpose and objectives.
* Ensure that adequate Suitably Qualified and Experienced resource and equipment is available to conduct Health and Safety activities in accordance with the Clyde Safety Management Arrangements
* Ensuring that those undertaking major projects have suitable H&S arrangements established that reflect the HMNB Clyde's health & safety requirements.
* Ensuring that we have suitably qualified and experienced H&S professionals onsite that are able to complete all activities in accordance with the policies we have set out.
* Lead, support and manage a team of 7 reports, reporting their performance standards in respects to Health & Safety.


Essential experience of the Health & Safety Manager,

* Competent in managing H&S procedures and processes.
* You will be fully competent and up to date in Health & Safety legislation.
* You will be a clear communicator, with proven leadership skills.
Have a passion for Health & Safety and doing the 'right thing'.
* Experience of Project Management, COSHH, Safe Systems of work, Risk Assessments, Quality Assurance, Planning, Budgeting and commercial awareness is key to this role.

This role is full time at 37 hours per week and can be worked on a hybrid basis from our sites at Helensburgh and Coulport, both of which can be accessed by car or using our company travel bus from Glasgow.

Qualifications for the Health & Safety Manager,

* Have a minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience within a technical H&S Management role in which you have managed a team of H&S Practitioners.
* Hold IOSH Chartership (CMIOSH).
* Hold a full membership to the British Safety Council (DipSM MIRSM)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC (UK eyes only) security clearance level for this role.
