Location: India Mill, Darwen

Salary: £40,000-£45,000 with £6,000 car allowance.

Job type: Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week over a 4-day week, Monday to Thursday.

Brookhouse Aerospace is a well-known and respected name in the Aerospace Industry currently in its 71st year, and during this time, the business has seen many positive changes following an MBO in 2021 from Kaman UK.

We offer a range of capabilities, including manufacturing composite components, metallics, sheet metalwork, fabrication, machining and treatments.

We are approved and certified for JOSCAR, AS 9100 and NADCAP certificated and are approved Tier 1 and 2 suppliers to the Aerospace and Defence manufacturers in the UK and internationally, such as Airbus, BAE, MBDA, Rolls Royce, Safran and Spirit.

The role:

We are looking for an experienced HSE Manager with at least seven to ten years of working experience in worker safety, environmental management, and property protection.

We are looking to for someone to assist in continuing our injury-free and environmentally sustainable workplace, the HSE Manager is responsible for the business's environmental, health, and safety performance.

The manager actively seeks and learns about safety methods and is internally driven to innovate and provide greater service to others on HSE.

The pace of progress in establishing the safety culture of the facilities will be influenced by technical, regulatory, and management resources in all operational aspects.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Effectively manage the day-to-day HSE function
  • Support facilities in developing, implementing, and sustaining HSE programmes and procedures by ensuring resources, tools and knowledge are available to control HSE arising from processes, equipment, or materials.
  • Support the business to manage incidents and follow-up responses effectively. Ensure that incidents and compliance deviations are thoroughly assessed to ensure corrective and preventive measures are based on root cause analysis.
  • Develop strategies and oversee initiatives for industrial hygiene and risk reduction programmes and practices that diminish hazards and create a safe work environment.
  • Evaluate and manage HSE issues and risks arising from operations, incidents, company products and business affairs. Recommend corrective actions; perform technical work, programme design and implementation while maintaining clear accountability for outcomes of HSE issues.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct periodic HSE facility audits and inspections to identify environmental and occupational hazards, ensure compliance, and develop recommendations that provide solutions or process alternatives.
  • Assist with developing and rolling out HSE benchmarking data for HSE reports such as Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility for companywide sustainability reporting.

The Candidate:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various audiences.
  • Good project management and organization skills, attention to detail and multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and use of MS Project, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfort around leadership - able to influence others with and without formal authority, including senior leadership.
  • Influencing others - working effectively with others without reporting relationships.
  • Action-oriented - high level of energy and ability to help others see the goals for safety, health, and environment
  • Approachability- able to present well and establish credibility.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to constructively resolve problems and issues.
  • Minimum NEBOSH Certificate in OHS (NGC 1,2, and 3), NEBOSH Environment, NEBOSH Fire, NEBOSH Construction.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or technical discipline, with a minimum of ten (10) years of health & safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including roles with multi-site and regional levels (Desirable).

Working pattern:

  • 4-day week Monday to Thursday 07:15 am to 5:00 pm totalling 37 hours weekly.
