The role
As a Human Factors Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you'll provide a vital role in the production and modification of safety cases and provide technical advice to Plant Managers to support safety critical operations.

Day to day, you'll support the development of modern standards safety cases and engineering facilities that support the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme. You will work within and be supported by a team of human factors professionals who work within the Safety Engineering Team.

  • Responsibilities as a Human Factors Engineer will also include:
  • Undertaking human factors assessment work to support the nuclear safety assessment process
  • Undertaking the design development of administrative arrangements that are important in maintaining nuclear safety on site
  • Supporting the ergonomic design development of engineering equipment, technology, and facilities
  • The authorship and checking of technical documentation

This is a full-time role (36 hours) mostly based from home and a requirement to be on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard one day per week.

Essential experience of the Human Factors Engineer:

  • Technical report writing, good verbal and written communication required - from director level to industrial
  • Safety assessment and safety case production
  • Application of human reliability analysis
  • Application of human factors knowledge / understanding in support of engineering design

Qualifications for the Human Factors Engineer:

  • Qualified in an Ergonomics related discipline or in Occupational Psychology / Applied Psychology and are able to work towards professional status with the IEHF or BPS.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National and must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
