About the job

Jaguar Land Rover is a multi-site business and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.

On successful completion of the undergraduate programme, you will be considered for a place on one of our graduate programmes. If you are to be offered a place on the graduate programme you will be informed shortly after completing your placement. You would join the graduate programme in the September of the year in which you graduate.

We are the future of modern luxury

We are the pioneers creating the next-generation of outstanding vehicles, founded on modern luxury. Each and every one of us are shaping the exceptional with soul. We are reimagining the driving of tomorrow and redefining what’s possible.

We are the future of movement.

We can’t wait to see what you can do with us.

Industrial Operations: Manufacturing

Manufacturing sits within our new Industrial Operations function, which brings together teams across manufacturing, purchasing and supply chain and consolidates accountability to create a unified vehicle production ecosystem.

Manufacturing is at the very heart of Jaguar Land Rover, with thousands of vehicles being created every day across our production facilities. Here you will have the opportunity to influence the future of manufacturing. This scheme is aimed at undergraduates who have a passion for learning and a pioneering mindset: ambitious, innovative and determined individuals who respect our heritage and can think beyond the challenges of today to build the cars of tomorrow.

Undergraduates joining this programme will be based in Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) and could work at any of our sites across the West Midlands.

Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME)

As a manufacturing engineer, you will be integral to the delivery of quality vehicles to our customers through the design, development and implementation of production facilities and processes that enable our future vehicles to be launched seamlessly. During your journey to becoming an expert in manufacturing, you will learn how to effectively implement and manage a lean operation and interpret the digital engineering lifecycle of a vehicle whilst developing exceptional core competencies in engineering. GME is the team responsible for designing, installatinginstalling and commissioning manufacturing facilities and processes to build our modern luxury vehicles. Join us and it will be your responsibility to ensure that colleagues in our manufacturing plant teams have everything they need to deliver vehicles in agreed quantities and to defined quality standards – meaning we can exceed our customers’ expectations.

You could find yourself focusing on a key manufacturing area such as bodyshop, paintshop, final assembly or powertrain or operating more broadly across logistics, construction and manufacturing research. Wherever you end up, you will gain invaluable real-world experience, developing the skills to play a key role in transforming the Jaguar and Land Rover brands to support our electrification targets.

This diverse team spans a wide range of disciplines across a range of technology areas:

Process and industrial engineering plans and implements processes to deliver the required volume from our plants.

Dimensional systems engineering ensures that vehicle designs and features meet customers’ expectations, including reporting on body quality progress.

Design integration engineering undertakes discrete event and virtual (RobCAD) simulation of production lines and tooling designs to speed up commissioning.

Facilities engineering is responsible for ensuring that parts are delivered to production lines on time and to agreed quality standards.

Construction engineering identifies and implements innovative technologies from concept through to realisation for all our manufacturing plants.

Manufacturing research identifies and implements innovative technologies from concept through to realisation.

Powertrain spans machining, assembly and testing as well as the development of innovative technologies such as batteries and rotor and stator assemblies for electronic drive units.

What’s required?

You will need to be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering, or aeronautical or automotive engineering if you have a strong interest in manufacturing. We may also require civil engineers for construction roles.

Equally importantly, you will require a real passion for problem solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions, backed by strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.

Please note that our undergraduate placement opportunities are open only to penultimate-year students (those who will be returning to their final year of study after their placement with us). All our undergraduate programmes have a fixed start date, commencing 3 July 2023.

Rewards and benefits

We haven’t yet confirmed our 2023 undergraduate programme salary, but in 2022 this was £19,452. You’ll also enjoy 26 days’ holiday, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, an excellent pension scheme and access to a wide range of deals and discounts from retailers and sports clubs.
