The Opportunity

The Inverter Delivery Team is responsible for end-to-end delivery of the traction Inverter, into Drive Unit programmes to vehicle. Our goal is to robustly deliver state of the art, competitive Inverter product into the market place that allows our vehicles to deliver class leading attributes. Within this goal, we need to ensure that the delivery of our commodity is done via clear, robust validation activities in order to deliver the reliability and robustness that exceeds anything we have done before.

As our project work expands, we are growing our engineering team by up-skilling, expanding and also adding proven lead engineers. Every engineer is valued and encouraged to contribute ideas and suggestions and the role of lead engineer is aligned to that of the rest of the team but includes an ability to coach, train and mentor others in the team. The leads will assist this development process with a structured approach that helps to contribute to the daily delivery.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Support the test process during development and production release phases for Power Electronic Traction inverter on our 800V BEV Unit Programme.
  • Ensure robust test methods are developed and realised to achieve Program milestones and targets (Risk Identification, Quality / Functional defect detection & removal, and timing).
  • Work with a ‘Statement of Requirements’ and highlight our test needs during supplier sourcing discussions.
  • Familiarity with requirements management toolchain and what makes a good requirement.
  • Ensure timely resolution of any inconsistencies/non-compliances highlighted in the necessary reports.
  • Stake holder management to ensure interactions with all parties are clear and transparent – allowing test execution on time to meet programme deadlines.
  • Test case management to ensure requirements are robustly captured via appropriate test cases.
  • Raising of any obstacles preventing the progression of the test plan to a senior level to ensure timely resolution.
  • Mentor and coordinate team members, including junior engineers and apprentices, some of whom will be working from different locations / different time zones.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Degree or equivalent in related engineering discipline or in associated subjects such as software engineering, electrical engineering or other related mechanical / mechatronics technical qualifications.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive powertrain engineering in a test environment covering software and durability rigs.
  • Familiarity with electrical, EMC, climatic, environmental, lifetime test techniques.
  • Basic experience in test automation for powertrain load rigs including dyno systems.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work individually and in a cross functional team
  • Understanding of control systems hardware, including sensor technology, control software and diagnostics.
  • A working knowledge of the design and release process for safety critical automotive components / systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience of meeting deadlines and product launch
  • The ability to make effective decisions in the best interest of the business and customer.

Desired

  • A knowledge of typical BEV, MHEV and PHEV system solutions and technologies.
  • Understanding of regulatory needs applicable to BEV and PHEV solutions.
  • Experience of test virtualisation, CAE correlation, component rig test, system test and vehicle testing.
  • Experience in operating and debugging dSpace HiL rigs in powertrain applications. Preferably with PE components (inverters, DCDC converters & chargers).
  • Understanding of control systems hardware, sensor technology, control software and diagnostics.
  • Experience of complex high voltage systems.
  • Experience of test automation scripting
  • Experience of design FMEA’s
  • Experience of Change Management process
