The Opportunity

 

We are looking for a Labcar build Engineer to be part of our innovative team. The Labcar department is at the forefront of prototype vehicle development and testing. We build and deliver whole vehicle electrical systems and network architectures on rig-based commodities for existing and new vehicle programs in the JLR House of Brands. These rigs have a high level of vehicle functionality allowing testing and validation of harnesses, modules, networks, and software before prototype vehicle build. The successful candidate will work with management and a team of technicians, be required to support all areas of Labcar builds, including frame modifications, power strategies, high and low voltage harness and component installation and debug, safety procedures, and support customers testing.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate / Support delivery of Labcar builds
  • Carry out or oversee rectification work including harness reworks, system debug, harness fabrication.
  • Work with management and other engineers to help provide solutions for Labcar build issues.
  • Support a small team of technicians with daily tasks including, system debug, harness reworks and various rectification.
  • Assist with Software installation and maintenance of software levels.
  • Working with multiple departments to ensure the correct level of build and support are given.
  • Assist in creation and refinement of Safe systems of work, processes and procedures.
  • Work with management to help implement Health & Safety and various standards required by the business.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

 

Essential:

 

  • Qualified in a Vehicle Based Electrical Discipline Minimum Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds or BTEC National certificate.
  • Good knowledge of vehicle electrical systems including vehicle network, systems, sub-systems and components.
  • Good understand of vehicle circuit diagrams and component operations.
  • Competent with vehicle electrical diagnostic and fault-finding procedures including the use of DVM, AMP clamps and various other tooling.
  • Competent IT skills, especially MS Excel & Word.
  • General Understanding of high voltage systems and components

 

Desirable:

 

  • Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic software packages and tools such as, PICOSCOPE, CANalyser and TOPIX
  • Previous High Voltage electrical vehicle working experience.
  • Previous experience within engineering or programme planning departments.

Working Environment

 

The role is based at Jaguar Land Rover’s Engineering Centre at Gaydon and is an on-site role working as part a team within Electrical Engineering Laboratories. Current core hours are 07.15 til 15.45.
