The Warhead Engineering function at AWE is looking for a number of highly motivated Laboratory Managers with a background in Engineering or Applied Science.

This role will provide technical support, underpinning engineering laboratory activities through the set-up, operation and maintenance of required technical capabilities. Applying knowledge and skills to oversee day-to-day laboratory management for a number of complex laboratories, supporting facility management, deconfliction activities, health, safety and quality compliance, and resolving technical issues as they arise to ensure ongoing laboratory availability.

Package: £29,640-£53,000 per annum

The Role?

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and support the increase in capability within assigned labs in line with the needs of the users - for example via the upgrade or addition of new equipment.
  • Apply technical knowledge and skills to improve operational performance of laboratory equipment, working autonomously to resolve issues with technical equipment and seeking guidance where necessary
  • Shared accountability with functional and facility management for designation of approved laboratory users
  • Report and assist in the management of any abnormal occurrences and emergency conditions, working with FLOs, First Aiders and Supervisors as necessary and ensuring that the laboratory is returned to a safe condition before any work re-commences

To be considered for these roles, you must have:

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, possessing strong communication skills.
  • A proven track record of driving delivery, performance and continuous improvement and demonstrable working appreciation of financial and business requirements.
  • Ability to provide technical input within own field of expertise and solve technical problems
  • A working level of proficiency in at least one engineering discipline
