WHAT TO EXPECT:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic production environment with colleagues from across the Jaguar Land Rover organisation. The role is for a Powertrain Launch Engineer to work on future vehicle launches (all new vehicles and model year updates). Powertrain Engineering is responsible for all aspects of Engines, Transmission & Drivelines, Powertrain Systems (PTSE), Calibration & Controls, Power Electronics, and Energy Storage.

Based in the Solihull Launch Team office, the Powertrain Launch Engineer will report to the Powertrain Launch Manager. The role has cross-functional interfaces into Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Programme Teams, Plant Launch, Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L), and Supplier Technical Assistance (STA). The Powertrain Launch team is responsible for delivering vehicle programmes through the launch phase, from verification build through to Job 1 + 90 days. This role will require the successful applicant to provide Powertrain engineering launch support in the vehicle manufacturing assembly environment including physical and software engineering, working to resolve design, quality, and assembly-related issues to ensure the delivery of flawless Powertrain launches.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• To deliver launch targets for Powertrain and lead the wider Powertrain engineering team in all elements of the build delivery to ensure a flawless launch.
• Ensure Powertrain deliver on commitments and all launch metrics in line with the vehicle Launch Quality Operating System.
• Work with Powertrain Engineers, Plant Launch and Manufacturing Engineers in problem resolution via Automated Issues Management Systems and Problem & Countermeasure process
• Coordinate change management activities for Powertrain parts and software in support of Launch objectives.
• Work on the delivery of all post build reworks & quality validation activities to achieve customer delivery dates & quality standards.
• To attend the launch review meetings and prepare management information for the presentation of status reports where necessary (e.g. Build Start-up & Wash-up / Board Walk / High Hurts / Launch Management Meeting / Escalation meetings)
• Coordinate and support raising and implementing Alerts, rework instructions and containment actions for any PT component, vehicle reworks and plant build containments.
• Coordinate the supply of parts to meet build phase Material Required Dates (MRD)
• Champion analysis and resolution of Powertrain issues impacting Plant performance indicators e.g. First Time Through (FTT).
 •Coordinate analysis and resolution of Powertrain issues that deviate from vehicle

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

Essential:
• Relevant previous experience of Product Launch in Manufacturing.
• Knowledge of Propulsion Systems (Conventional ICE, Hybrid, Battery Electric Vehicles).
• Understanding of vehicle programme delivery processes & procedures.
• Awareness of Quality Operating Systems including Launch Quality Operating Systems.
• Working knowledge of Engineering Release Systems (e.g. WERS) and Issue Management (e.g. AIMS).
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation.
• Capable of working in a reactive and pressurised environment.
• Able to work in a cross functional team and make robust decisions under pressure.
• Capable of problem investigation and resolution in a restricted timeframe.
• Highly driven, self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills.
• Current Driving Licence.
• Competent user of Microsoft applications.
 •Relevant degree or equivalent experience.

Desirable:
• Capable of presenting status to all levels of the organisation, at a variety of meeting forums.
• Detailed understanding of Bill Of Material (BoM) validation.
• Working knowledge of JLR’s Product Creation & Delivery System (PCDS).
• Experience of Product Launch and the Launch Quality Operating Systems processes.
• Experience of delivering and developing technical products.
• Experience in the delivering of technical products including physical and software engineering.
 •Experience of module team delivery.
